Robotic simple prostatectomy
Robotic simple prostatectomy removes the enlarged inner portion of the prostate causing urinary obstruction, using the da Vinci Xi system through small keyhole incisions. It is generally used for very large prostates.
Key points
What the procedure involves
Robotic simple prostatectomy is performed under general anaesthesia through several small keyhole incisions using the da Vinci Xi Surgical System. The enlarged inner part of the prostate that is blocking urine flow is removed while the outer prostate capsule is left in place, and a catheter is placed at the end of the procedure to drain the bladder while it heals. The procedure typically takes a few hours, and most patients stay in hospital for a short period before going home.
